Who knows?!  But arguably HP might have an interest in pushing high
end Unix users towards HP-UX rather than Linux.

Just because HP are willing to sell Linux on laptops, doesn't
necessarily mean that they don't want to hobble it on the server.

Regardless it still seems bonkers... but then the world of software
patents usually does!
