Yes, I've experienced this with HP 'disk protection' software (on HP machines 
where there is a separate restore partition). Unfortunately, I've fixed it now 
so there is no information to send him. I had to remove all the supplied HP 
crap-ware and then re-grub the system. I find that this is a fault with GRUB2 
rather than other software - the solution is not 1-granny, so it will leave 
users high and dry.
