Is it a laptop? If so we could try it with another card reader tomorrow night and see if it's hardware specific. Did you check the bios? Have you got usb stuff enabled in the kernel? My hunch is that it's a kernel issue. It took me ages of trial and error to get mine working but I don't use it anymore and can't remember the details now sorry.
