Hi all,

The Durham Free Software Skill-Share project [1] will be represented
at the Neville's Cross eco festival [2] this Sunday, June 15th. It
would be great if anyone on this list wanted to call by and see what
we're up to; we'll be at the Transition Durham stall.

We'll be giving out fliers to promote our upcoming skill-share event
on July 26th [3], talking about green computing and having a bit of a
game with a power meter...

How low can you go - a fun activity for all laptop users
- --------------------------------------------------------

Come one and all! Bring along your laptop and it's mains power supply
and I'll use a plug-in power meter (in the church hall) to measure how
much power it uses. Then I'll show you some ways to reduce the power
consumption.

If you're not already using GNU/linux, you can try booting it from a
USB stick and see what difference that makes to the power consumption,
without making any permanent changes to your laptop.

This won't be a full-on green-computing hackathon (we've just left it
too late to organise that), it's just a fun way to "walk the walk" as
well as talking the talk. I'll bring some paper and marker pens to
tabulate the results.

Cheers all,
Mark
