Thanks again Barry.

Did not manage to fit in the meeting this week.
Fortunately it does not affect me.
It is 17.3 I have on a desktop where I had the BIOS problem on a MSI Mobo and following the changes I mentioned previously everything is still working very reliably.
The Lenovo Think Pad I got from Mark has version 18.1 or (18.3?) installed cannot remember which off hand.

Regards
Alan

  Hi,

  Saw this on Phoronix:-
  https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Ubuntu-17.10-BIOS-Corrupter

And Canonical has noted it here:-
  https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Basically, 17.10 can possibly corrupt your BIOS firmware on certain
computers. See the above links for more info.

  BW,

  Ian
