[Falkirk] Wireless signal extenders

Hey all,

I have a relative who lives in a fairly old large house (early 1900's semi
job with a servants quarters and such)..  The nature of the building pretty
much seems to block the signal.

In short the line from Virgin terminates in the back living room. where the
virgin provided netgear router is located.  The main user of the line uses
the line in the front bedroom upstairs.  Basically you couldnt get much
further away.  My inital thoughts are to get somesort of wirless
extender/booster device to place at the bottom of the stairs to help out
there.

Has anyone had any experience of these devices?  If so are there any
reccomendations and / or advise you can give  when purchasing one?
