A friend mine told me about this the other day. I know it's not about
Linux, but it's a topic that I've discussed with many of you at various pub
gatherings because it's becoming an increasingly important topic in the
world of technology. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the talk,
but I thought some of you might find it interesting! (And if one of you can
make it, let me know what I missed?)

Online Privacy vs. Digital Surveillance - Edinburgh event

Summary:
The UK Government recently dropped plans to include a Communications Data
Bill in their legislative programme. The Bill would have enabled mass
surveillance of all our personal internet and phone communications, and
represented the latest round in a long history of tension between state
surveillance and the right to individual privacy. Can a balance be struck
that protects civil liberties?

Speakers:
Ian Murray MP (Labour, Edinburgh South)
Marco Biagi MSP (SNP, Edinburgh Central)
Jim Killock (Executive Director, Open Rights Group)

When/Where:
Thursday 13th June 7pm
Room G.07, Edinburgh University Informatics Forum, Crichton Street,
Edinburgh
