It is, to me at least, total common sense.... otherwise, how can one in
any way moderate a list? Remember that as the owner of a list you can be
legally liable for any content which is posted on the list - for example,
libel. I know you will no doubt think me an old "fuddy duddy" for saying
such, but it is important to protect yourself.
The other advantage of subscriptions is what we're talking about here...
an automated job will not necessarily be able to go through the process of
subscribing... it is incredibly easy for it to send a mail to an address
though...

Entirely up to you, but if I end up getting 100 SPAM e-mails a day as a
result of this strange and bizarre policy that you wish to adopt I shall
be unsubscribing.
