Martin,

This is probably a sledgehammer to a nut for what you want to do, but I
thought I'd pass the link on.

AniComp provides the core system for arranging an Animatic. AniComp works with
Ardour an open source Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to handle its audio,
and Jack a low latency audio server for audio visual synchronization.

Also:
Two aGNUla/DeMuDi mirrors if you want to add them to
your /etc/apt/sources.list - deb-src also available, of course.

deb http://freesoftware.ircam.fr/mirrors/demudi/ unstable main contrib
deb http://ccrma.stanford.edu/mirrors/agnula/demudi-apt/ unstable main contrib

If you want the lot (about 300MB last count) then install the demudi task
package. I suspect you may just want to pick out the occasional package.

You only really need a patched low-latency kernel and JACK if you want to run
several music apps through the same sound server, or something like AniComp.

Most of the DeMuDi packages are already available in 'testing' - The next
releases will be based on testing snapshots and will form the basis of a CDD
(Custom Debian Distribution), so the above apt sources will soon become
redundant.

cheers
