Is this debian or a knoppix install. 
If it is a knoppix install make a copy the samba.conf file. open teh
samba conf file it's in /etc/samba. remove a lot of what is written in
the config file because of the knoppix operates is shares webmin will
not open the existing config file.

Once you have modified it webmin will work OK with it. The only thing
you can't do with webmin is add new samba users.You can get webmin to
create samba user names and passwords for existing unix users also it
say it can configure automatic unix and samba user synchronisation 
I have not tried that.

so it is passwd -a username userpassword as su  this will add a samba
user 

Webmin is quit good for samba very easy to set up.
