I just realized this won't work. The environment variables will be
forgotten as soon as the scripts finish.

On Fedora there is an /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/GNOME script and an
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession script that could be tweaked. On Debian the
scripts are probably different.
