Hi people,

I have been considering the recent emails on this list about us
appearing elitist on the list; while new members that attend the
meetings have said that we are a friendly and helpfully bunch. On the
list, it probably stems from us not being able to converse about the
problem and gauge the level of knowledge the person with the problem
has. It also makes it more difficult for newbies to ask question about
parts of the answer they did not understand; and for us to lead somebody
step by step through a problem.

On the other hand, the ideal place to answer these questions and
converse about problems, the meetings, only happen once a month.

I have been considering this, and think I have come up with a solution
that will let us converse about problems more and talk people through
problems. It will also help new members get to know us and work out we
are just normal people that happen to use Linux and are happy to help
people with not as much experience.

I have set up a irc channel that I think would be both useful to help
solve, and talk people through, problems. It could also help us to get
to know each other better and work out each persons area of expertise.
As I am sure that everyone of us knows something or has solved a problem
that somebody has not worked out yet.

I have set up the channel #lugog on server irc.lug.org.uk (which uses
the Blitzed network). Hopefully I will see you there.

Martin Biggs
