Depite all its populariuty, i have abandoned firefox as my default web browser
A lot of people dont realise how sweet epiphany is. Using the resource
monitors of gkrellm, firefox is a hog to load, while it has a lot nice
extensions
the functionality isnt that great.
Firefox has the nifty little search biox in the corner, epiphany has
them wherever you want (if you customise the toolbar, you can position
bookmarks wherever you want )
so i now have toolbar icons for gmail, gmail compose, translate etc
which when sombined with smart bookmarks, mimic some of the firefox
extensions.
Also firefox has problems with some flash sites
The epiphany download manager is faster.
In summary more reasons to like gnome.
Does anyone know of a gtk2 email app, that has a smaller footprint
than evolution (which is overkill for me), is faster to download email
than thunderbird, and is pretty than sylheed claws?
Also some little apps that i have found quite usefull over the last week
root-tail, for displaying text files on to the root window (disable
the nautilus desktop in gconf)
\pal, a command line personal organiser, uses simple text files so it
is usefull when combined with a usb pen drive, very nice to have in
bash login
seti at home client , for when you wonder why you have a PIV CPU and
1GB of ram for checking email.
Annd the best gratuitous use of computer resources goes to
the matrix screensaver (or any other xscreensaver), when run directly
from its command, as a moving wallpaper (nautilus desktop needs
disabling for this)
My random thoughts
Alistair
