hmm, very odd,
using dev mouse isnt the best idea, if its PS2 tell it to use /dev/psaux
or if serial simply /dev/TTYS1 , or symlink /dev/mouse to one of these.
the netcard problem could be kernel drivers, install your debian and get a
newer kernel, maybe 2.2.18 or 2.4.x if you fancy a newer flavour.
