Thanks for the further info on xinetd.

Have got it running, after a fashion.

It will allow tcpd to validate hosts,  but for some reason, refused hosts
are kicked off immediately (without the 5second delay tcpd normally imposes)
and nothing is logged.

Something still wrong somewhere, though I have no idea where !

Bearing in mind that xinetd does nothing I really need over inetd,
I think I might be better simply compiling-up the inetd source  !!
