[Gllug] DAT Drives

hi

i found this from an assignment i did earlier this year, i did some research
on DAT and Digital Data Storage (DDS) storage devices (the later format).
thought it might be handy.

DDS drives use a 4 mm magnetic tape and a helical scan recording process
similar to that of videocassette recorders.

LaCie DDS3
Using up to eight 125 m DDS3 tape cartridges loaded in removable magazine,
the LaCie DDS3 autoloader offers a maximum storage capacity of 96 GB without
compression. Depending on application software, an 8 cartridge magazine can
be set so that one cartridge is designated as a cleaning cartridge while the
other seven are used as recording media. This way of application will allow
the LaCie DDS3 autoloader to have a total capacity of typically 168 GB with
data compression.
It achieves high data reliability through read-after-write, an additional
level of Error Correction Code and other features.
