My flat in Watford (1 bed, clean, not tiny, not massive) costs £575/pcm.
If I was heading for the city I'd be looking at a 1 hour commute assuming
that trains & tubes were on time.  Forget about taking the car.

Fortunately I head up the M1 against the rush hour traffic to Hemel
Hempstead ;-)
