[Gllug] Heavy-ish Linux Hosting.

Hi,

Rackspace on the whole are okay. I have a Linux dedicated server with
them that I use for personal use (sites listed in signature are hosted
on that server) and I can't complain about too many problems (other than
the time they billed me twice in one month causing me to go overdrawn
big time - but they did promptly refund me and gave the next month at
half price and there has been no other billing screw-ups since). In a
professional capacity they've been okay, but suffered horrible problems
with them with regards to their tape backups.

We've had problems whereby the tape drive has either failed; somebody
has inserted the wrong tape type in the drive, a Rackspace technician
altering the backup scripts and then forgetting to put it back in the
Cron job, and as a consequence lost a lot of days where we had no
backup. Getting compensation from them was very difficult.

They control panel is quite nice, and they are a fairly efficient
ticketing system. Overall, I'd say they are no better or worse than
say, Webfusion.

Just my tuppence.

Regards,

	Martyn

Hi,

Wonder if folks could possibly help. We've potentially got some work for
a
company wishing to build a promotional website. We reckon they'll be
getting
around 90 unique users/minute hitting the site, site running an Oracle
DB,
people registering and filling in various bits of information.

So, we're looking for hosting for a setup something like:
. Couple of webservers.
. One Oracle DB.
. One backup Oracle DB, mirrored ideally.
. Some load balancing hardware in front of webservers.
. Some firewall hardware in front of webservers.

We'll want to run a version of Linux, possibly RH.
Does anyone know a good, a really good, hosting company who are savvy
re:
Linux.

We've used Rackspace in the passed and they seem pretty good, I just
wondered whether people knew anyone else, or recommended anyone else?

Cheers Roland.
