I find it easy to put back in the cdrom (Mandrake 8.0) and do an upgrade of 
only one package. When this is installed the installing program will ask you 
to create a boot disk. Do it. Then asks you for Lilo or grub. I use LILO. In 
the following screen make sure that you choose LILO with LBA2 and choose 
also your / partition to installe it. Basically that is it. You should be 
booting smoothly.
