I know someone who's got one of those but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I think the call costs (and powered transmitters / dead zones problems) would scupper further investigation along that path.

I guess what I'm really after is a client so thin it's handheld... it only needs enough ompph to boot up, load a web browser and render the markup returned from the server. Having it running on an open source base would be an advantage... what I don't need is something that will encourage a doctor to enter all their appointments and todo lists.. and then cause a problem when it breaks or a patient (or fellow doctor) nicks it ;-)

Nokia Communicator 9110/9210 is a very nice single unit, decent
screen/keyboard/dev. environment and https, but it doesn't have 802.11b,
just GSM dialup. So unless you have a deal with, say, Dolphin Telecom, theny
our phone bills will be high. OTOH you don't have to provide the networki
nfrastructure yourself ... but you may hit problems with dead zones in
your buildings.
You'd still have the problem of powered transmitters near to medical
electronic equipment, though, no matter what you do :-(
