You're quite right.
Nothing wrong with FORTRAN at all.
Again, its tools for the job.
If you want to design a fighter plane, simulate colliding galaxies
on a vector processor machine, or run Monte Carlos
simulating particle physics detectors, then you use FORTRAN.
