hmm, as i recall when comming back from Canada one year, if you collected 
receipts for your purchases while there ( excluding food and stuff ), you
could claim back part of the sales tax upon return to blitey.  cant remember
which tax it was PST, or GST, but it was a 7-8% rebate.

still, i've seen some US companies who import Japanese products for sale in 
the US, but the prices are far more than tha native price.  hence wondering
if anyone had bothered to get things shipped from the far east.
