Can anyone offer any comments on the File Alteration Monitor daemon (fam)?
I've set the options in /etc/rc.config (SuSE 7.3) to use fam and have KDE use 
it. When the second of these is set, KDE sticks on the "initializing system 
services" message, whether or not the user is remote (i.e. from NIS with 
NFS-mounted home) or local (root, in particular.) This only affects KDE, 
since windowmaker functions correctly.
