I'm not convinced.

i.e. = id est = that is

e.g. = exampla gratiae = for example

using i.e. gives the phrase "..first IP in range is broadcast source, that
is to say 192.168.1.0..."

192.168.1.0 IS the first IP (in the 192.168.0 network) and is not an example
of the first IP (because there can be only one)
