[Gllug] Kernel configuration

Dear list,

I need to reconfigure my kernel to make my winmodem work. However, I
cannot boot any of the reconfigured kernels. As a test, I have
recompiled the kernel after copying a running configuration using

     cd /usr/src/linux
     make cloneconfig

as recommended in the SuSE support database. I have then recompiled
using

     make dep
     make clean
     make bzImage
     cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/bzImage.newkernel

and prepared the initrd by

     cd /boot
     mk_initrd

LILO uses the new kernel and the new initrd, but booting hangs.

I cannot possibly see what's wrong. Please, help.
