I would guess that it is the vendors playing chase the leader (in terms
of release number)

I noticed that Red Hat were very quick to put out 7.0 after SuSE had
released SuSE version 7.X - the same thing was also present in the
Office suites too with Corel matching M$ all through 7-9, then 2000.

In addition I would like to give a little more information as to the
difficulties I have had with 7.2.

They solely relate to gnome, I have been unable to reproduce the
difficulty when running KDE.

I leave the system up for a day and then press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE and it
kills the box. I cannot ssh in or ping the box.

I have yet to try another window manager other than sawfish - that is
the next step.

Hardware is a Compaq Deskpro, 128Mb RAM, 10Gb HD, Intel 82810E 16Mb
graphics card(on board), SMC and 3com network cards

I would guess that it is probably quite stable without X; however I was
shocked as I had not seen so many kernel panics or something in
user-space having such a bad effect on the rest of the rest of the
machine.

Going to have another play to see what else I can make it do ;-)

Cheers
Xander
