[Gllug] XML Apache stuff

I need to write a simple web based application which will talk to a
postgreSQL database.
I need to generate nice graphs and reports so I'm thinking of creating PDF
files using some toolkit.

I've had a look at http://xml.apache.org and there seem to be many tools
there. Has anyone used these tools?
Which tools would you recommend?

I am not committed to writing in Java, I will also consider doing it in
Python.
