[Gllug] Laptop memory weirdness

All,

Laptop IBM Thinkpad 570E 500MHz, 128MB, RedHat 7.1 KDE 2.1.1 Kernel 2.4.2

Under the KDE control center(sic) under Information, Memory I am using 99% of my Physical memory. I am sat here at the moment watching my laptop hard disk churn like mad at the moment and it says I have less than 1MB of Free Physical memory left. Not writing from the laptop BTW.

Under top: X, autorun and kdeinit are using max 1.0% CPU and max 7% MEM.

I've got 4 virtual desktops and only one window open in each, doing nothing at the moment. Before the laptop hung when I used ALT-TAB to go between three consoles on the same virtual desktop.

It gave no trouble when running nmap and tcpdump at the same time a few minutes ago.

For info, the Red Hat 7.1 distro was from the Linux Expo - a freebie.

Advice needed (I would like to stick with KDE and am quite getting into xinetd config so please don't suggest changing distro!)

Matt
