He's wrong there.
I remember going to one trade show/conference where Roke Manor
Technologies were showing off number plate recognition
software - every vehicle going past a camera, in real time, had its
number plate read.
I beleive GLLUG members will be able to say much more about the current
state of the art here.
I do not claim to be an expert, but my point is that this sort of
technology was and is being used to track suspect vehicles in the UK -
and I think with some success.
I remember reading that the van which carried the bomb to canary Wharf
was tracked all the way down the motorway network
from the ferry port. I may be wrong.
Also note that it is common knowledge that the Army have had a large
computerised database on Northern Ireland for
many years.
