The obvious comment is that Compaq dropping Alpha may have be a
prerequisite for the sale.

My guess is that the combined entity will still see some value in Linux,
and some in proprietary avenues. At the moment, I'm more concerned with
the future of Compaq's venture capital fund (they've invested in the
startup I'm currently working for...)
