Even that wouldn't help. It costs quarter of a million dollars, which
buys you 56-bit key cracking in 3 days. Of course, the Unix password
salt is specifically designed to make hardware crackers like this work
for their money, so realistically, taking the salt into consideration,
you're looking at over 30 years for this particular DES cracker to
break a Unix password. Yes, since it was built, hardware speeds have
increased, and it won't be too long before it's economically feasible
to crack Unix passwords in a sensible period of time at a reasonable
cost. But like I said originally, for now, you're safe. Plus, of
course, many people are using MD5 passwords now anyway...
