More completely, the three primary standards are:

	DVD+RW
	DVD-RW
	DVD-RAM

I went for DVD-RAM because at the time (several years ago now), it looked
promising, it could write discs with Type 2 media that could be read in a
normal DVD-ROM drive, and lastly, I had a contact at Panasonic that could
get me one cost price :-)
