'+' and '-' are not standards per see. Their full names are DVD+RW and
DVD-RW, DVD-RAM is the only read write standard endorsed by the DVD
forum. Both - and + are vendor backed eg (http://www.dvdrw.com/) for +,
which is backed by HP,Phillips and Sony (amongst others). DVD-RW is
Pioneer backed, I can’t find their official site. I think - and + are
used because to Joe user both 'standards' are essentially the same. It’s
a Vi-Emacs thing.
