Why am I driven to think of "Linux Showrooms" in the high street,
exactly like the old Gas Showrooms?
If I'm not wrong, Gas Showrooms were set up by the gas companies to show
off new ways to heat your house and cook. Thus boosting the sales of
gas. I think they are no more.
The thought though of geeks in Bri-nylon shirts and slip-on shoes
showing off the latest window managers to the unsuspecting public 
boggles the mind.

Also arts venues now are in old electricity installations - one in
Limehouse.
