Much as I hate to say it, Compaq do some quite reasonable 1U machines.
We have both DL320 and DL360s here, and I've only got two complaints.
First is the lack of a serial console aware BIOS. Second is the lack
on an external SCSI controller. Yes, you can stick another controller
in the PCI slot, but on the DL320 at least, you've then used up your
only free slot. Somewhat pointless when the machine already has an
internal SCSI controller anyway...
