cant help you muich with SuSE, but with debian the install and setup is
painless. read thru the docs for how to set it up transparently, thats
probably the trickiest part. [1]
most modern distro's will configure squid to listen on port 3128 once
installed and started. so you can test it out easily enough, just by
configuring a browser to point at it. once your happy its working, try
and get the transparent setup working.
