Funny you mention that.  These implementations were for a long time much
needed in Java, and were written by a third party, JGL (Java Generic
Library (pron "juggle")), and only about two or three years ago were
added officially to Java by Sun and put in java.utils namespace.

BTW, talking of recent additions like this, the latest glib is excellent
and with gob, a C pre-processor*, can make doing OO in C a breeze.  It
would be nice if it was made a 'standard' I reckon.
