[Gllug] Quiet Fans

Quiet fans are usually so because they rotate slower.

A small decrease in rotational speed can have a big impact on noise. IIRC, someone mentioned a thrust/noise vector of aeroplane engines being ^8 (to the power of 8) and asked if this is the greatest natural non-linear vector. I suspect there are much greater ones.

Try putting a resistor in series with the fan. calculate the value for a 20-30% drop in voltage. R=V/I where R=resistance V=Voltage drop, I=nominal fan current.

Nick.
