[Gllug] MySQL 3.23.41 on RH7.2 - 2nd attempt

The installation was done during the setup of RH7.2 which is I think an
RPM install.

I shall run the mysqld status command tonight and give the feedback
tomorrow. I know that mysqladmin version command gave me a connection
error.

For info, I tried :
mysql -u root -h thinkpad -p
with no luck. I believe that this wouldn't use the sock file(?) to
attempt to connect.

I vaguely remember having a lot of similar problems with mysql relating
to the mysql.sock
I think they were permissions related.

Are you compiling from source or is it installed from an rpm because I
think the setup instructions are slightly different and the
documentation isn't too clear on this.

What do you get from "/etc/init.d/mysqld status"?
