Sure does. In fact, that's one of the reasons I started using it
(that and split window support). I only stopped when vim reached
sufficient maturity, and gave me a few goodies that nvi didn't.
For most, though, nvi will give you everything you need. In fact,
the nvi page even boasts infinite undo as one of its features:

	http://www.bostic.com/vi/

Having just tried it, the version shipped with RH7.2 appears to not
support multiple undo levels, but the versions I've compiled from
source all do.
