[Gllug] Frozen machine?

Any suggestions on how I can rescue the Linux machine that sits next to
me? I logged into it via the keyboard (using KDM to go straight into
KDE) and as soon as it built the desktop, it froze up (no mouse or
keyboard response).

However, I can still access it via telnet, and it's still happily
serving webpages. Since it's obviously still alive, I'm loathe to hit
the power button. Is there anyway I can poke it via telnet to bring it
back to life?
