If you get black screen, or fuzzy images, then try using a different v4l
application, xawtv works for me, some programs don't do something to the
device which it needs in order to demunge the picture or something like
that, I have problems  with a cpia based camera - when i use webcam
software which grabs still frames and not a stream, or certain
applications which are generic v4l programs i just get rubbish, it may
have  something to do with the brg->rgb conversion which gets done along
the way too, anyway my advice try some other applications to view the
image, as it seems to be a problem with my camera, it may also be  one 
with yours.
