After my first ever attempt at compiling kernel 2.2.10 I got the thing
to boot up OK but one or two bits seem missing and whilst it is up and
running it does something to my Mandrake CUPS printing that means I
cannot print anything when I revert back to my
original kernel. The trick that I find always works is to bring up a
browser whilst in root and use the cups interface on URL
http://localhost:631. Once in there you can do a test print which works
and the whole system works again everafter.
Just a small 2p's worth, will get around to recompiling some day.
