Even with the monitor sockets, if they were in series that would mean that
you couldn't run the computer without having a monitor plugged in and turned
on which is not true.  Also, it would mean that the voltage was divided
between the devices which is also not true.

The wiring would look something like:

         ._computer_.     ._monitor_.

         |      ~   |
         |__________|

This is most definately parallel. :)
