[Gllug] hard drive problems

Hi All,
   I seem to be having problems with my hard drive :(

a couple of days ago my system died and wouldn't fully reeboot 

it seems that the partition var lives on has become very corrupted

I had to boot from rescue disk - edit fstab - create some directories on
my / partition (eg /var/log) - and then I could boot :)

I ran badblocks and it looked like all the blocks were bad, and I was
getting so many errors - like this...

...that I never managed to create a complete record of the badblocks (the
system would hang)

of course now I try to put together a mail asking for help the problem
seems to have dissapeard - fsck reports no errors on the drive, it now
mounts perfectly!

anyone have any idea what is going on ??

May finally delete windows as I never use it and it takes up the other
