For your own sanity I advise not getting the hideous USB modem. The people
who designed this monstrosity should be lined up against the wall and shot.
Or perhaps that is too good for them. Just MHO! :)

Just been re-reading the recent thread on wires-only ADSL and whether to
go for a USB modem or an ethernet router (with plusnet).

As I understand it the ethernet router they recommend is kind of a
modem, IP-masquerading device and ethernet hub all in one. But if you
use this wouldn't you then need each of your machines to run their own
firewalls?

Shouldn't a firewall ideally go between the modem and the
IP-masquerading part?

I think the consensus was go for an Alcatel Speed Touch but is there any
significant difference between the PCI card version and the external USB
version? (apart from the obvious).
