[Gllug] codepage madness

The pound sign (the money one, not as in the #) screws up my terminals 
[xterms or console]. If I type it (shift-3) then it either appears as a # 
and a return [eg the term prints a # and then its as if I also hit enter] 
or it screws up the terminal and text won't display unless I highlight it 
and stuff.

To complicate things, this is on an iBook and I don't really know anything 
about the keyboard input layer(s) this uses.

So, TIA for any pointers to fixing this :-)
