[Gllug] Debian package refusing to go

I expect to get well and truly slapped by my elders and betters for
this but I had a similar problem some time back on a box.  for some
reason Debain package management has problems removing some old config
files the binaries seem to go but not the /etc.  I go in there and just
#rm by hand.  this is probably a bad thing to do but it has worked for me
in the past.

Is this a bad way to treat Debian or not?
