My 2 pennies as I live in Germany:

- If you can avoid it, don't get anything from Deutsche Telekom. No
  phone line, no I-net access (T-Online), no DSL. Just don't bother with
  them.
- Like Everard said, check out www.heise.de for comparisons of ISP's and
  DSL providers.
- There are now a lot of local service providers that quite often offer
  good packages whereby you get ISDN and DSL incl. some hefty discounts
  or free minutes for your telephone calls.

If you (or anybody else for that matter) need help finding a provider
because your German's a bit rusty email me off the list and I can try to
help you.
