Yes, webmail is like www.hotmail.com etc., you have to be online to read
your mail. Which is useful if you're moving around because you can read
your emails from any internet-connected computer. But less good if
you're on a pay-per-minute dialup connection. Outlook Express and other
email clients can use the "POP3" protocoal to download your email from
the remote mailbox to your local machine so you can read it offline. I
don't use plusnet's email but often your have the option of using both
methods.

A "binary" is a file that isn't plain text e.g. a picture, a music file
or a compiled program. I don't frequent binary newgroups but I
understand they offer pirated software, porn and mp3's (music). Plus
legit stuff as well I guess.
